Our family has had a wonderful experience in Tuis the past three weeks. What impressed us the most was the openness and the warmth of the Costa Ricans in the community of Tuis.
When we arrived our two children, ages 9 and 11, did not speak any Spanish. My son wasn’t even interested in going to school, since it was summer vacation for us. Within days, he had made friends with the boys in the neighborhood. He soon became very attached to his new friends, and was motivated to learn Spanish.
My daughter loved the Spanish class and was amazed by the friendliness of the people in Tuis. She, too, made several new friends. My husband was involved in learning basic Spanish, plus medical Spanish, which helped him brush up on his skills.
As an advanced Spanish student, I had opportunities to participate in the women’s meetings at the mission where I made several new friends as well. It has been a pleasure to be here. We hope to return again soon.
